I agree. The first act is perfect.
The problem is, Spielberg went too far into the “kiddie” realm in Neverland.
It is said, Tom Hanks was originally his choice for Pan. But Hanks was filming “A League of their Own” and the schedules overlapped.
And honestly, I love Robin Williams, but Hanks would have been better. Could you imagine (in Hanks voice) lines like "What is this? Lord of the Flies preschool?"
I’d have cast someone like a 1991 Meg Ryan as Tink.
And Tim Curry as Hook, but Hoffman works fine honestly.
And like someone else mentioned, he went too far “G” in Hook. In the second and third act, he should have made it more even toned or some seriousness. It went too “Rated G”
