I don't think it is as great as it is made out to be by some people, but it is an excellent movie. Beautifully made and creative and emotional story-telling. There seems to be an interesting debate going between various people... It's great, or, it's over-rated... Now, while there may be some exceptions... I've begun to wonder if... Those of us who love the movie, saw the film, back in the early 1980s... and... those who don't care for it, have only recently seen it... Back in the 1980s, this was THE film. Not many other films measured up to it... So of course we found it incredible. And when we watch it, nostalgia kicks in... But, for the younger generation, who have many newer movies to compare it to, is it really that great for them? It's hard for most of us older fans to understand why so many others don't like the film... And the only conclusion that I can come up, it must be a generational thing... However, as I noted, there are some exceptions... Even back in the early 1980s, many people didn't like the STAR WARS films, and still don't today... So, the idea that people didn't like E.T. back then, is just as likely... However, I am at a loss to understand why they didn't like these films back then, because everyone that I knew was talking about all of these films, and loved them... and so their reasoning, remains a mystery to me. There is nothing wrong with not liking E.T., but, I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't... Because it is one of my all time favorite films, and in my opinion, it certainly earned it's reputation of being one of the greatest films of all time, at least, back in the day...
