Correct.

Nobody is saying he doesn't have feelings and isn't being honest about them.

It just comes off as pathetic self-pity and he IS making himself look more influential than he was. That is where the ego stroking comes in. I agree that he doesn't come off like a narcissist though.

Those are my feelings and I am being honest about them.
