But that doesn't answer what the word "pog" is, so I'll tell you: "POG" is an acronym, comprising the initials of pineapple, orange, and guava--the juices of which were mixed to make a fruit punch popular in Hawaii, where the practice of collecting "pogs" originated. The wooden discs were the inner parts of the bottle caps of the punch...I believe. Somebody who actually collected those thingies would know that part better than I. As a kid in the 90s I had a vaste pog collection. But as a kid in the 90s we didn’t have the internet so nobody knew where pogs came from, we just knew we needed them! Slammers were great tho. They were usually metal and heavy and had cooler designs. Like a super pog!
