The draft is truly an antiquated process. There's no reason for it to exist, particularly with a salary cap for the league. What other walk of life are you forced to work somewhere you don't want to work? It's crazy. Parity. The salary cap is supposed to provide that. Players will take the best opportunity available no matter what; be it salary, playing time or championship potential. It should be up to them. You shouldn't get strong armed into working for a terrible organization because the league is willing to bail out your idiotic employer year after year. Executives need to learn how to do their jobs. Some teams generate greater revenue, but if there's a hard cap you simply cannot spend beyond, the playing field would be truly level and it's up to the teams to sell themselves to the players. The draft is just another example of a system set up to protect the executives from their own stupidity, and even then it doesn't work 3/4 of the time.
