First one I could think of, when seeing your thread, and was pretty sure it had already been posted a few times. But, yeah, this I remember early on, into the beginning of the 1996-97 season, live on tv. And it was just so unreal and cocky, yet it went in, and was kind of the moment where everybody, even those at my school who were not really interested in football, started to realize that this Beckham kid, he was not that "bad" of a footballer.
Even though Beckham had already done very well to settle nicely into the first team, during the 1995-96 season, he proved so many times during the period of 1996-97, that he was not yet another british overhyped one night sensation, that would fade away and be replaced anytime soon. He probably scored way more important goals for his team, but for him as a "trademark/poster boy" for the british Premier League, that there, was his signal of arriving and never looking back.
The next few weeks, I saw Beckham Manchester United jersey, all over, and I even had one myself, misspelled by some cheap crook, during a visit to the big city. It was the wrong shirtnumber and I believe it said: Bekhem or something, still, I did not care much, kind of felt it made my jersey a bit more "unique" than the other kids at school.
