Ann Dusenberry would have been a good enough choice as Laurie Strode. She had the right look for it and enough acting talent. In fact, I think she is probably a better actress than JLC. Of course, looking back on everything now, nobody could have been more right for this role than Jamie Lee Curtis herself. "I wish I had you all alone. To myself. Just the two of us." That was a cool piece of trivia. I thought I knew almost everything there was to know about "Halloween", before and after. Guess not! Thanks, Prime! I pondered this when I first heard this trivia because I can certainly see Dusenberry as Laurie Strode and doing a good job. I checked out an Anne Lockhart movie--an obscure one from the time because I had forgotten her--she was in Battlestar Galactica. I am thinking she could have played the scared mousey teenager well, but would have been unable to connect with the kids--the comic book scene. I could see Dusenberry better at that and obviously being effectively scared. But JLC had a tomboy quality which I think gave the part a kind of realism and Dusenberry may have been too glamorous. Because the closet scene--JLC is really good there--I think that's the signature scene in the movie where she is trapped and uses the coat hanger.
I agree. Curtis is really good there. Totally believable. Also, Jamie's LS had a slight underdog quality that works very well in the movie. Maybe that's kind of what you were saying when you cited Ann's higher "glamour" quotient.
