I will agree Thor 2 is slightly underrated. The arc of Thors expected royalty that he doesn't desire and Lokis betrayal of family is good material to mould a story out of. Throw in the death of Frigga as a catalyst to unite the demi-god brothers against the bigger threat and you have a script that writes itself. Unfortunately, the film's brought down by the goofiness and embarrassing antics from Darcy and Dr Selvig together with the bland performance of Natalie Portman. They mess the movies tone too much. And obviously the villain doesn't get much depth but thats to be expected in a MCU instalment.
One more positive is that the score is one of the best from any Marvel film.
