I did watch the Slits documentary. I should buy the recent one on the Damned but it was a little unsatisfying. Not enough focus on the actual music or the work they did in their first 10 years, which I feel is becoming a common problem now with the mass production of arts documentaries for different channels and streaming services. It was still exciting to see a Damned documentary, but I hope a better one is produced someday - a detailed account and a complete retrospective of their work.
This X-Ray Spex documentary is all about Poly Styrene which is reasonable as that's its dedicated focus. The band didn't release much material anyway. It's also a personal account from somebody closely connected to her, and I'm still thinking about it days after seeing it, which is probably the sign of a good and effective documentary.
Thanks for the recommendation. If I'm still working closer to summer, I'll probably buy a batch of punk documentaries on dvd, as there's been some good ones screened on SKY in the last couple of years that I don't have copies of. I'm keeping a list on an active punk thread I started here to aid me in this cause.
