I actually liked Iron Man 3. I found the Mandarin Twist hilarious right away. But Im not a comic book reader. I dont care about Marvel comic books(or DC comics for that matter). I can understand why people who do love comics dont like that twist. My critique on IM3 is that there is little Iron Man in it (as in IM2) except for the ending with the Iron Legion where there was a bit too much. But overall I also really enjoyed IM3. The funny thing about the Mandarin twist was that the trailers really sold him as a great villain. I actually didn't care at all about him being in the series one way or another as I actually had major doubts that he could ever work on screen... But then Marvel really sold us Ben Kingsley as a really threatening, well acted villain. I never would've been upset with the twist in the first place had they not advertised him that way. I mean, the trailers literally had half a dozen Kingsley lines that weren't in the movie. It was like "Hey, want a piece of cake?" "No thanks, I don't really like cake." "It's made with real cocoa and organic butter. Best frosting ever!" "Actually, that sounds great. Gimme!" "Sorry! There is no cake. Only pie."And I don't dislike pie. Just don't get hyped on cake before offering it. On a second watch through I was able to accept the twist just fine. What still bothers me about it is how removed Tony is from the story. Instead being a proactive protagonist he's out in Alabama hanging out with some random kid. Iron man 3 had that thing where at first viewing i thought I want more Iron Man! Gimme Iron Man and what i got was Tony Stark. screw that. I want him in the armor not fighting guys without the armor or remotely controlling the armor, or another guy inside the armor or gal, for that matter. I WANT Tony Stark inside the freaking Armor kicking serious butt. What i got wasn't that... So i felt cheated (i didn't care for mandarin so didn't bother the twist). Then something happened, iron man, iron man everywhere. Now Iron Man 3 is, in my opinion, very good to great, in the grand scheme of things. I always loved TDW so i will not go into that.
