It was Van Halen and they demanded a bowl of M&M's with the browns taken out. A commonly know fact it was looked of a rack and roll decadence or eccentricity. Actually Van Halen's contracts had a lot of clauses about how they wanted their stage, equipment, sound etc set up. If they walked into their dressing rooms and the bowl of M&M's were there, with the browns removed, they knew the contracts had been read and followed. If not, it could give the band an excuse to cancel the show
