Ever since Dunkirk’s great reception in 2017 the film snobs and popcorn CBM crowds merged to start bashing Nolan incessantly. Tenet took the brunt of that hate, but it’s moved to the rest of his filmography too. I’ve seen them called overly self-serious melodrama (just as the OP did), right wing reactionary trash, fascist garbage, sexist, and poorly shot police procedurals - among other things. I liked the Nolan Batman trilogy but even I wanted to literally bash Nolan's head in after watching Dunkirk what a monstrously overrated garbage movie. Yeah see this is what I'm talking about. Something about Dunkirk made people turn on him for some reason. I don't know why. I mean, I can get hating or disliking it as a movie, but what is so offensive about it? It's a 107 minute war-thriller without an ounce of controversy around it.
