 yes a lovely one - I think added for the movie and not in the original score - Oh thanks re PM and impressed you answered question yourself - The EAST OF EDEN thread gave me opportunity to explain Nope! Younger than Springtime is in the original Broadway score. Lieut. Cable did have a song that was added to the movie score. You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught deepens the understanding of racism that Joe and Nellie are struggling with as they consider the love they have found in such unfamiliar surroundings. Rogers and Hammerstein scored in very traditional opera style. The lead s were a soprano and bass, the second leads were tenor and possibly a lyric soprano. In this case, the lyric role , the young girl was virtually mute, so the second lead was a comic soubrette, Bloody Mary.  Well fielded Marsha - in my defence I'm a CAROUSEL man myself
