It could certainly do with a much more definitive presentation.
I wouldn't say do-over so much as just a major step up to the next ten levels. It just really felt like there needed to be more going on, and I would also say the villains they put in were very low key. I love Harold actually, but that would have been more like Nuke being the main villain in Jessica Jones. He was a secondary villain in that series, and Iron Fist would have probably been awesome if Harold was just like he was but there was a much greater villain to deal with.
And the Hand group in this one wasn't the same either. I get that the Hand would have a recruitment school, but when you've already shown us the major league level of the Hand, showing us the training class, while cool, doesn't represent a credible threat.
I would also add that Danny should be a naïve character. It completely makes sense. The man knows nothing of the modern world, and only thinks of it how a child thinks of it. But there weren't very many moments where that felt like it paid off. I think there is a version of season 1 where him being so naïve would have been a very fun character trait but they never really got there. Instead there were moments where it was occasionally annoying.
All in all the season was passable. It works, but only just barely, and I agree that a strong season 2 is not only needed, but might make it all worth while.
