They used to play it in the olden days. A six foot ball that players had to push towards their opponents goal line, with bonus points for getting the ball between the bar-less goal posts. It wasn't unusual for a player to be floored during play by the huge heavy ball, which took about ten horse's hides to make and another two or three hours to inflate. There are pushball events around the world these days but somehow they lack the wide-eyed innocence and childlike purity of the early pioneers. Here's a clip from 1927 showing pushball being played using motor vehicles. Look out for the fellow on 00:15 who, with a deft neck movement, avoids having his head knocked off by the approaching superball :
