Because all sports are made up, some sports where just made up a long time ago.
Rugby's a good example of made up Sports spinning off - Union, League, American Football.
Actually, it's a pity the Americans didn't go with League. Would be an interesting sport worldwide with a strong American league to rival the Aussies & Brits.
