My favorite "triple crown" horse, from the relatively recent past, was Smarty Jones. His name, and personality seemed to go together. I always had the impression that he KNEW that he was a "character," and that people responded to him.
I think that he won the Derby, but fell in a subsequent race.
He was a sweetheart, and so many were in high hopes that he would win the Crown.
