The ocean of course. And also the perfect view of an endless horizon not obscured by physical terrain or manmade objects. When I was a kid, my Dad was in the military and we were stationed in Florida for a few years... When we moved there, I was so excited to see the Ocean... But when I discovered that it was a dingy grey, the water felt yucky, and it didn't smell good... The excitement lasted for only about five minutes. Spend your vacation money on get a swimming pool instead. That does seem odd to me. I grew up and live near the beach in a Los Angeles suburb.
Yes, the water is dirty but it's still a beautiful blue. I would frankly feel claustrophobic if I lived more than 50 miles from an ocean. I know it's all perception of course. But most of us live in such densely populated areas now.
At least when you're standing on the shore you're looking at a "no man's land".
