Why do people like to vacation to the beach so often?

I actually feel claustrophobic when I'm near the ocean. I know I can't go any further and I feel almost trapped, like hitting a wall. Obviously, I'm not a fan of beaches. I also just find them kind of boring in general. Not my cuppa.
