Well there's only franchises now--and even DiCaprio did a few---anything with a known historical figure is a kind of franchise or brand. Howard Hughes or Hoover.
Also when you have Tarantino or Scorsese--so DiCaprio is riding on them as well. Not him alone.
DiCaprio did one adventure movie franchise--the Three Musketeers which was not well received--his performance at least, so I guess he won't be doing that again.
The Rock did the Mummy films and Jumanji etc.
There are no actors who can sell a movie just with their name. Eastwood is the only one I can think of who avoided franchises.
he said, thank god I wasn't a young actor today--because of the superhero stuff-although he did say the Sub-Mariner was his favorite.
Clint Eastwood doesn't do franchises you say? What about the 1500 Dirty Harry films he did? There were 5 Dirty Harry movies. The last was 33 years ago.
