The Kinks. The WERE big but they should have been up with the Stones and Beatles. For some reason that I'm not sure of myself, they were banned from touring the US from 1965 to 1969 and that hurt their popularity. UFO. Just at good as the other metal bands of the period, Judas Priest, Scorpions, et al. Why they didn't catch on is a mystery UFO around the "Obsession" period should have been perfect for the US, Must have been under investment by the label. I still think Strangers in the Night is one of the best live albums in history, not just hard rock/metal history
