A firefighter drama mixed in with thriller and investigation procedural from Ron Howard after films like Splash, Cocoon. and Parenthood but before Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind. The film is very well made with a fantastic cast including Kurt Russell, William Baldwin, Robert De Niro, Scott Glenn, J.T. Walsh, Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Rebecca De Mornay. Also features one of Hans Zimmer's best and most memorable scores. The fire sequences are awe inspiring. Everything is done for real which is mind boggling. We really took the whole "do it for real" aspect of moviemaking for granted. Recently released on 4K UHD with a stunning new transfer.
also, the scenes where Baldwin visits Donald Sutherland's pyromaniac character in prison bear a striking resemblance to the scenes with Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs which opened just a few months earlier. Both films even share a co star in Scott Glenn. The movie also had an attraction at Universal Studios that closed in 2010
