I've never been the most avid swimmer. But, I do enjoy the sensation of a little lap, or floating around in a pool.
I, also, identify with Goz and Crusader.
Like Goz, I live very near the Pacific Ocean. But, I think she's much closer than I am ... I'm about a mile away. For much of the North American Pacific coast, it is not a "swimming ocean." The shelf drop-off, is precipitous, and the undertow is strong. We don't have tide pools in this area.
Like Crusader, I'm a little ear-sensitive. I had ear infections, as a kid, and water rushing into my ears - while not painful, or leading to pain - brings back memories of cold liquid medication going into my ears. It just isn't pleasant.
