List of movies where a "bad guy" is played by an actor who almost always plays characters on the good side. Nominate more. Maybe we can have a poll when we get 50.
1. John Wayne-RED RIVER (unless enough people decide to make it RED RIVER or THE SEARCHERS)
2. Joel McCrea-FORT MASSACRE
3. Andy Griffith-MURDER IN COWETA COUNTY
4. Gregory Peck-THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL
5. Henry Fonda-FORT APACHE
6. Paul Newman-HUD
7. Glen Ford-THE MAN FROM COLORADO
8. Robert Taylor-THE LAST HUNT
9. Arnold Schwarzenegger-THE TERMINATOR
10. James Caan-LADY IN A CAGE
11. James Stewart-AFTER THE THIN MAN
12. James Drury-RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY
13. Edmond O'Brien-SHIELD FOR MURDER
14. Audie Murphy-NO NAME ON THE BULLET
15. Dean Jagger-WARPATH
16. Clint Walker-SCREAM OF THE WOLF
17. Yaphet Kotto-LIVE AND LET DIE
18. Richard Basehart-THE SATAN BUG
19. William Shatner-I HATE YOUR GUTS , th20. Tyrone Power-NIGHTMARE ALLEY
As I edit these in, I'm taking my time so I won't overlook something. As for Henry Fonda, I took his more "credible character", the one with motivation. I do tend to take more three dimensional villains that the comic book types that most people here seem to love.
21. Charlton Heston-THE THREE MUSKETEERS (I thought about his hate mongering villain in "Arrowhead", but that is the very hate mongering racist movie that I don't believe in allowing any credit, so 3 Musketeers fits better here, thanks)
22. Harrison Ford-WHAT LIES BENEATH
23. Burl Ives-DAY OF THE OUTLAW
24. Tab Hunter-GUNMAN'S WALK, which leads me to another nominee, the real villain of that film
25. Van Heflin-GUNMAN'S WALK
26. Frank Sinatra-SUDDENLY
27. Tommy Lee Jones-UNDER SIEGE
28. James Garner (voice) in Atlantis: THE LOST EMPIRE
29. Michael Caine-ON DEADLY GROUND
30. Fred MacMurray-DOUBLE INDEMNITY
31. Hugh Beaumont-APOLOGY FOR MURDER
32. Robin Williams-INSOMNIA
33. Going to be too many to list, more than any poll will handle, but if anyone wants to copy and paste more, that would be very good.
