Interesting first round with a few favourites all but playing themselves out of it. Jordan Spieth had a 76. Justin Rose a 77, Web Simpson a 79. Lefty and Morikawa both handed in 4 over 75s, as did Canadian Corey Connors. Viktor Hovland had a 74, ditto for Zalatoris. New South African star Garrick Higgo finished with 76. Former champion Martin Kaymer also had a 76.
