Prior to being cast as Tony Stark, RDJ's career was going down the drain and nobody wanted to hire him for decent projects anymore. So while his other movies outside Ironman weren't exactly hits, the fact that he still got hired as well as got paid pretty heftily is due to the MCU helping restore respect to his name. As for Scarjo, she wasn't really a box office star before the MCU. She had a number of movies here and there but only The Island was a big enough movie. After getting cast in the MCU, blockbusters started to role in and she's now one of the highest paid female actors in the world. I don't think she would have managed that without the MCU. Agreed on RDJ, that was pretty much my take as well. I think Scarjo would've made it big either way, but MCU bankability certainly doesn't hurt your resume. I think the best way for me to explain why I put Scarjo in there is to compare her to Chris Evans. Both of them were rising names in the movie industry when Marvel cast them, but Chris Evans was already doing blockbusters like F4, The Losers and Sunshine and a few more notable movies. His career definitely got a bump from his stint with the MCU but I didn't include him in the list because I feel like he would have eventually reached the same heights on his own. I didn't quite get that vibe from Scarjo. She felt like she was getting parts more for her being another pretty face. Sure she was starting to get bigger projects but she doesn't quite have the acting talent or charisma that Chris Evans has that would have made it easy to land harder roles. She might have made it big on her own, or she might have turned out like Jessica Alba or Jessica Biel who just kind of faded into obscurity after a brief flash in the spotlight.
