You do know most over 60s would probably still not know who Scarlett Johansson is right? Regardless of the Avengers. A "household name" to me is a whole family from grandparents to grandchildren knowing who someone is? Now, the grandkids will have that sorted not sure about the grandparents though. I'd argue that's not what a household name is. A household name is a name famous enough that it's recognized in most households, but that doesn't mean everyone in the household knows who they are. Someone like Brad Pitt or Samuel L. Jackson are household names. Known by most households but not necessarily all people from all generations inside a household. If you're talking about names that are recognizable across multiple generations by pretty much everyone in the world, like Bruce Lee or Elvis Presley, then that’s no longer a household name. You're describing someone whose reached full iconic status and possibly even legendary status. That I agree with much more. I think we have mostly the same idea, I just think Scarlet Johansson was there first. She had a 9 year head start. She was in 12 movies before before Blunt. Lost in Translation, where she was a main character, came out the year of Emily Blunt's first movie.
Personally I wouldn't even put Jessica Biel or Kate Beckinsdale near them. Even now, I know Kate Beckinsdale for Pearl Harbor and at least one good Underworld movie. Jessica Biel, even less. 7th Heaven the TV show and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. I think she was in Texas Chainsaw Massacre; I remember the long shot of her ass in a commercial once.
Emily Blunt I had to go back for, because I didn't know who she was in The Devil Wears Prada. Looper is what made me start noticing her everywhere. Edge of Tomorrow sealed the deal.
