I think I said that I heard someone say it can be seen as a parody or "maybe" that was the intention. The issue is that even if that were true, it fails. It is still a boring movie even if it was intended to be funny. The reason I figured maybe that was the intention is because "WTF?" and because it came right after Lady in the Water which I do see as a black comedy in ways. I mean this movie involves one character who has been only working out one arm and so he has one skinny arm and one extremely buff arm. It involves a motel janitor who finds a portal to a fantasy world in the motel pool and a fantasy wolf who brutally kills a cynical book critic. This movie was obviously a response to M. Night's critics in regards to The Village and I find that amusing. Hmm. Say what you want about The Happening, I never found it boring. I can see an argument for its bad acting and many silly aspects being an homage to 50s b movies, though I'm troubled no one involved has come out and said it. We know at least Market Mark wasn't in on the joke: he's trashed it publicly. Interesting. The main reason I dislike it so much is because I find it so dull. The movie should be called "The Not Happening."
