The "raging" goes a long way. I thought Deniro was constantly threatening presence, like he could burst into violence at any moment (which he did).
It's a matter of plausibility. I don't believe Robert Deniro the actor could take me in a fight, but he can sure make me think I have no chance against his character. I could hold my own against Matt Damon for a bit; Jason Bourne, now that's another story!
