I think there are more than one factor here.
The movie selection this year has been weak. Also, the WB deal with HBO has made it easier to just watch movies at home that you would have had to go to the cinema to see before the pandemic.
The pandemic is definitely a big part of it, but not just because people still have worries. They have gotten use to just watching movies at home over the past year and I think that is playing a part. It definitely is for me at least.
I haven't seen any movies at the cinema this year and part of that is because the selection has been weak and the few I would have went to see at the cinema have been available on HBO Max.
