Meet Joe Black (1998) has a higher rating on IMDB than Death Takes a Holiday (1934). I don't have a big complaint about that, but I am very surprised. For those unfamiliar, Meet Joe Black and Death Takes a Holiday are based on the same play and follow the same basic story, but Meet Joe Black has much more to it than Death Takes a Holiday. It is almost 2 hours longer. "Meet Joe Black" is much more recent, has a still popular movie star at the head, and today's raters at the database only know new movies, not classic era. That explains the higher rating of the lesser of the two movies. It also explains the higher rating of Carpenter's "The Thing" over the older but much more accomplished "The Thing From Another World."
