I'll be honest. When I first encountered a newspaper article about this film back in 1996, I thought it was an actual news article and genuinely believed (albeit briefly) that aliens were invading. Good times.
Watched and re-watched it many times in the late 90s. It's the quintessential big dumb 90s blockbuster and Will Smith's best movie role to date (not seen Aladdin). Which is a shame considering his obvious talent and charisma. An old school epic that I'll always appreciate with excellent visual effects by the standards of the time, with CGI still in its infancy (most CGI from this era looks awful today) and a heavy reliance on real models.
