FRIGHT NIGHT 2011 barely works as a horror movie and it doesn't really work as a dark comedy... unlike FRIGHT NIGHT 1985, which didn't work in any way. However, it does work as a drama. The best example is the scene where teenager CHARLEY BREWSTER suspects that his neighbor JERRY DANDRIGE is a vampire and he "tests" him. The directing, writing and acting create a lot of tension. It didn't feel like the makers were trying to cash in on the TWILIGHT craze. I'm not just saying that because of a scene that openly mocks that saga, but also because the vampire is a monster without redemption. Oh, and he's not a teenager.
