I am not fan of either movie, but I'll go with The Omega Man (with all its flaws).
I Am Legend started out promising until they got to the cgi leap frogging vampires/zombies (whatever they were) and the movie quickly began to run down. Matheson's dark novel was corrupted into a standard action opus and vanity production.
And for the record:
I saw The Last Man On Earth in 1964 and initially thought it was grade d cheap and unappealing. It is one of the few films to which I've given a positive re-appraisal. Vincent Price's demoralized protagonist is far more engaging that Charlton Heston's channeling of Ben Hur and the depressing, claustrophobic ambiance of his existence is closer to Matheson's book than either of the remakes.
