Superman makes his first appearance in costume--they have a pimp standing there so that if there is any humorous reaction from the audience, it gets controlled by making a deliberate joke.
It's the only time they make a comment about his costume.
Robocop did it differently--they showed his costume in pieces and glimpses so that it wouldn't seem ridiculous when you finally see him.
