I do put SUPMAN II just a touch above SUPERMAN, but it's obvious they're the two best super hero films, and about the only ones from DC that remain remotely true to original comic book anti hero status.
SUPERMAN II has the perfect blend of comedy and dark comedy. The bully in the diner is superb not only for effect, but he makes Superman into an actual "anti hero", since without his powers he learns he has to "cheat" to win, when "cheating" is humanitarian. Clark comes back with his powers to beat the bully with super powers, an anti hero move, because it is the right thing to do.
The classic hero would never do that. Odysseus always uses brute force endowed by Nature, and never "cheats" to use more. Even against Cyclops he wants a "fair fight" from natural resources. Kal El is more of an anti hero in using the weapon of super power.
Yet Kal El remains a hero and someone whose motivations we can understand and find credible. We can't do that with Odysseus or the classic hero who has a superiority complex.
