I never saw the original all the way through until feeling compelled after seeing the remake. The remake is much darker and the ending asks, how could you think a young girl could go see so much violence and death without being marred by it.

Well that's the thing. I feel like Hathaway's film has more of a cute, sitcommy feel to it. The Coens version was much more raw and ended in a more honest and satisfactory way, at least to me it did.
