The original is extremely boring, the second is good until the cartoonish and predictable last 20 minutes and I haven't bothered with the third. If you thought the first was boring you really shouldn't see the third one. At least the first tried to created tension. It sure did try.  The "found footage" gimmick really doesn't work for Cloverfield imo. It has worked for 2 movies - The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. In the latter it is done in a way where the cameras are just set up and so the characters don't look like idiots carrying the camera around everywhere. It doesn't feel forced in those 2 movies. It also works in The Bay (2012), but I don't remember why it works so well there. It is done in a way where it makes you forget it is a found footage movie. That is one of the most intense and disturbing horror movies I have ever seen.
