Since new takes on books and plays are not really "remakes" I would say that the entire library of literary and world history - fiction, non fiction, drama, historical events - are open to adaptation by a new generation of film makers.
The only suggestions I might have an objection to are the use of up-to-date computer special effects on classic stories. We have already had enough earthquakes, erupting volcanos, floods, tidal waves, etc. so that more of the same would just seem ordinary.
