Perfectly planned heist goes horribly wrong. I wonder if this was a major influence on Kubrick when he shot The Killing a few years later, even as far as using Sterling Hayden as a low-life criminal who doesn't quite make his plane flight.
I'm not a big Hayden fan. He was a one note, monotone actor, with no sense of humor, and maybe that stems from his disdain of the acting profession. What he does on screen suits him and apparently quite a few fans. I don't avoid movies with him (even own a few), but I don't seek them out because he is the star.
