I watched this and thought: wow! Who is that Marylin Monroe-type?
And then after seeing the closing credits:

Sterling Hayden was in PRINCE VALIANT--very much the role model for Han Solo in that film. His lack of acting ability worked well in there because Debra Paget is infatuated with him and he doesn't clue in until the end-and it happens offscreen--probably to spare him having to act beyond his ability.
I liked the relationship between him and Sam Jaffe. Opposites attract.
John Carpenter said that he never knew an actor who has happy with their performances. They always were critical and felt they could do better etc..
