Bizarre movie Under the Silver Lake (2018), written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, utilizes clips from How to Marry a Millionaire, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and 7th Heaven (1927) starring Janet Gaynor, with whom the protagonist's mum is infatuated (reminding me of certain posters on here). Indeed the latter film appears to play a part in the movie's resolution after our hero (Andrew Garfield) is overwhelmed by the implications of all that he has found out and, while watching the said movie, of which his mum has sent him a videotape, apparently decides to give up trying to make sense of life and just enjoy it while he can. A Woody Allen-style conclusion, though Woody turned to the Marx Brothers rather than Janet Gaynor for solace.
