Since when is that the "widespread consensus"?
The film is directly about a street level hero taking on people who are involved with cleaning up the destruction from Avengers conflicts, and the widespread consensus is that it's looking just fine.
People hate the new tech in the suit but, look at the cover of Amazing Spider-Man number 22. Every tech-gag seen in the Homecoming trailers was actually a thing from the comic books (sans the heaters).
I get that people don't like Tony influencing Peter. That's actually the only aspect of Homecoming I'm even moderately concerned about. Peter did learn most of the essential lessons about being a Super-Hero on his own. However, I don't think it's beyond reason to think that he might want to be a part of something bigger than himself at first (i.e., the Avengers).
People are entitled to their own opinion but, I feel like a lot of this bitching and moaning is coming from a place of complete ignorance and conditioning brought on by Sony's previous entries in the franchise. I'm sincerely trying to understand their point of view.SaveSave
I always loved the cross over stories with spidey and other heros (bag-man is priceless). It's a shame that the Human torch isn't in the MCU... It's a big part of what makes Spider-Man unique is the difference there is between him, and his stance in battle and life against the more serious heroes. I liked a lot what they did in CW and I'm looking forward to IW because he is in it. I want to see him in a big ensemble movie, but we need to see the daily life, the grounded adventures to really apreciate it.
I'm more than excited for homecoming, I think it's going to be a big surprise...
