I haven't seen the 2011 one. Conan is the ultimate victim of wokeness and that was true in 1982 as well because the Arnie Conan has little in common with the pulp character. He is supposed to be a simple adventurer guy--like Reb Brown's Yor--he's very Conan-like--going off on fantasy adventures. There's not much fantasy in the 1982 film. The sequel has a little more of that.
He's supposed to be somewhere from the north of the UK--celtic or something. He wasn't a slave either.
One thing I remember from a reader's comment in a magazine was "how ugly" the women were in the movie. He was really upset about that. lol
I don't think Sandahl Bergman was the best choice for Valeria.
Kalidor in Red Sonja is closer to REH Conan than the original movie. He was supposed to be Conan but he's closer to the pulp character in that one.
