I saw JUST A GIGOLO, which I didn't like. To be honest, I can't understand how Billy Haines ever became a movie star; he couldn't act his way out of the proverbial paper bag, and he had all the sex appeal of a wet dish towel!
But after that one, I saw the original version of WATERLOO BRIDGE, which was much better. IMO, Mae Clarke is one of the most underrated actresses in film history. She deserves more credit than being the recipient of the grapefruit-in-the-face delivered by Jimmy Cagney. And it's interesting to see Bette Davis in a small role three years before she became a genuine star in OF HUMAN BONDAGE.
