I expect to get so much hate by saying this, but in MY PERSONAL OPINION I think the remake is a much more fun movie. Even when I watched Poltergeist for the first time (the original) I never saw what the big deal was about it. It's not a terrible movie, but I just don't think personally it's all that scary either. If you asked me I thought the 2nd one was weirder and personally more what I expected from the original. I also really like everyone in the remake. Sam Rockwell is one of my favorite actors and when I heard he was gonna be in it I was stoked. It's rare he ever does anything terrible. I wasn't too familiar with the actress who played the wife, but I thought she was fine. The Kid actors are ok too. I really liked the little boy in the remake and when he went in to go save his sister instead of the mom I kind of teared up. Jared Harris was also really good in this. He does not get nearly enough credit for everything he's in. In fact him and Rockwell are probably the best things about this remake. Yeah it's odd not seeing Zelda in this, but be honest you're never going to find anyone like her again. Making her character a male and a ghost hunter tv show host made A LOT OF SENSE. There were also a lot of scenes that I don't know if they were intentionally supposed to be funny, but Sam's rockwell character made me laugh quite a bit especially when they are trying to find the squirrel in the attic and a scene where the parents are about to make love and the little boy walks in and Rockwell notices he has his pants down. Again I don't think this is all that bad of a remake. I understand why people don't like it, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I think this remake gets WAY TOO MUCH HATE. If the original hadn't existed I feel like people would have been more open to this.
