Speaking of remakes/re-adaptations

"Meet Joe Black" is much more recent, has a still popular movie star at the head, and today's raters at the database only know new movies, not classic era. That explains the higher rating of the lesser of the two movies. It also explains the higher rating of Carpenter's "The Thing" over the older but much more accomplished "The Thing From Another World."
