NHL goalies are arguably considered one of the next most important positions in all big 4 pro sports, behind QB.
Yet how many goalies get drafted first, or top 5, or top 10? Am I crazy or is that crazy. Goalie? Yeah, we'll grab him 41st overall before someone steals him.
That’s because not only are goalies much harder to predict, but they take much longer to develop than other positions. You take a goalie, you might not see them on the ice for five years - whereas you’re more likely to get a surefire NHL talent in the immediate future by targeting safer areas first.
