LOL! Olympic competition only is your source? Not to take anything away from what girls were doing back in the 50s and 60s but the sport has change a lot since then. The skills are much more advanced today.
Biles has won the worlds all around 5 times and with a total of 25 medals at the worlds, She's also won every other gymnastics competition multiple times including 7 time US all around champion. She has 4 gymnastic skills that are named after her that no woman has ever done in competition. You really can't go by Olympics only.
She basically took the sport to a different level. Yeah, I think that would qualify her as the best gymnast ever.
And Comăneci didn’t take the sport to a new level ? She also has manoeuvres named after her. She also did several, multiple skills that never been done before in competition. She also got awarded multiple perfect 10’s at multiple Olympics, and won more medals at her two Olympics than Biles won at her two Olympics whilst performing for a far inferior team in Romania than the USA. Biles is not the best gymnast ever unquestionably, when a competitor for that title has in many ways outperformed her on the biggest stage. And that is without mentioning that Biles literally walked away from said biggest stage for ambiguous reasons that were not physical injuries, and in the middle of competition no less. Not exactly the hallmark characteristics of a “Greatest of all Time” now is it ?
We'll have to agree to disagree on this. I still say the skills are much harder today than they were back then. It's like comparing NBA teams of today to teams of the 50s and 60s etc... teams of today definitely play better defense than they did back then. Not that I want to get into an NBA debate now but you know what I mean.
