I can't figure out why the Rockies kept Story. There's zero chance of him to resign with Colorado. So they throw a qualifying offer at him that his agent will get a belly laugh over and he will go elsewhere and the Rox will get a compensatory pick at the end of the '22 1st round. Whee. There's been some decent picks in that area, Ke'Bryan Hayes, Jack Flaherty but a lot more misses.
Not that the Rockies are going anywhere. There's going to be a lot of lousy teams next year. Cubs, Nats, Twins, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Orioles (sorry Nut, couple more years), Rangers, Pirates.
It makes absolutely no sense and it wasn't for a lack of suitors. The Mets, Jays and Rays were all involved in talks over the past few days. Maybe they were worried about getting too much in return, for fear of having to pay someone again in the coming years. Story isn't having a great year, so maybe the market was too low or non-existent. Teams scared away, thinking he's hiding an injury. You didn't hear a lot of rumors. Why they didn't trade him in the offseason like Arenado is beyond me. It was a sellers market but a team never gets what it should in July as opposed to the offseason
